Years of repeated facial expressions such as laughing, smiling, and squinting produce wrinkles and fine lines that deepen with age. These “dynamic wrinkles” may create an appearance that does not reflect the youth and vitality you feel inside.
What Are BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN?
Although most people have heard of BOTOX, not everyone knows how the product works. BOTOX is an injectable remedy for wrinkles, but is not a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® or a collagen stimulator like Sculptra® Aesthetic. Instead, BOTOX uses an active ingredient called botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles exacerbated by facial movement — especially crow’s feet, forehead lines, and creases between the brows. Unlike fillers, BOTOX requires several days to take effect. But once it does, you’ll see why it’s one of the most popular nonsurgical aesthetic treatments year after year.
Dysport is an injectable product that’s often mentioned in the same breath as BOTOX Cosmetic. Dysport uses the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin A, to treat many of the same concerns. However, due to subtle differences in its consistency and formulation, it may be a better option for certain patients.
XEOMIN is similar to BOTOX and Dysport, but it is double filtered to remove unnecessary proteins so only the active ingredient in XEOMIN works to smooth lines and wrinkles. By removing the unnecessary ingredients, XEOMIN isolates the therapeutic component of the molecule to soften frown lines effectively, treatment after treatment.
