What Is A Flank Tuck?

Sometimes called a ‘flankplasty’ or ‘lower body lift,’ a flank tuck is ideal for removing skin and fatty tissue that are impervious to diet and physical activity. Flank tucks are not a weight loss surgery but rather a way to tighten and contour the lower body, including the lower abdomen, hips, and back. A flank tuck may be combined with other body sculpting procedures such as BodyBanking or gynecomastia surgery.

What Happens During The Procedure?

Flank tucks require the patient to undergo general anesthesia. Fat is typically removed via liposuction first. Then, strategic incisions are made between the lower back and hips to elevate and tighten the tissue of the lower torso, removing any excess skin that may exist. After the area is contoured to highlight underlying musculature, the incisions are carefully sutured, and the surgery is complete.

Recovery From A Flank Tuck

After an observation period, accompanied patients can return home or to their hotels. It is habitual for patients to take 1-2 weeks off work. Bruising and swelling are normal and will subside within a week or so. Working out or any type of moderate to strenuous exercise should be avoided until your surgeon confirms that you are safely able to resume, which is typically within 2-4 weeks.

Each Piazza Center patient goes home with a tailored recovery plan built to match their lifestyle and recovery needs. This plan should be closely followed for the best results. The Piazza Center specializes in high-touch recovery, which means that our surgeons spend significant time with patients even after healing has occurred to ensure patient satisfaction.
