More Women Opting for Preventive Mastectomy

Like Angelina Jolie, many women are faced with the decision of mastectomy in order to prevent or reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.   A preventive mastectomy is similar to a mastectomy in a woman that has breast cancer but is different in that this procedure is performed in women who currently do not have breast cancer but are thought to have an increased risk for the development of breast cancer in her lifetime.  In Jolie’s case, she had a … Continue Reading

The Mommy Makeover for Body Renovation

I recently wrote an article for Austin Beauty Guide regarding the “Mommy Makeover” for Body Renovation. With Mother’s Day around the corner, family members are scouring stores looking for the perfect gift. Yet, the gift that some moms are hoping for can’t be found in a mall or online. Silicone Implants Dominate Market

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article regarding the comeback of silicone gel implants.  Statistics released Tuesday by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for 2012 showed that 72% of the 330,631 breast augmentation procedures in the U.S. used silicone implants, while 28% used saline, or sterile salt water. This is in contrast to 2006, the year the ban was lifted, when only 19% of procedures used silicone. I have seen this same trend in my practice, where … Continue Reading

Would You Try to Push a Water Balloon through a Buttonhole?

What is a Keller Funnel™ anyway? It is a cone-shaped, nylon device that allows me to use a no-touch delivery technique, which is believed to reduce capsular contracture, a painful complication associated with breast augmentation procedures. When I perform a breast augmentation in Austin, I want to minimize trauma to the breast implant when I am placing this in the breast.  The best way to do this gently with great care is to use the Keller Funnel™.  The funnel has … Continue Reading
