We all know that it’s best to wear sunscreen at the beach or during times when you are anticipating a longer than normal exposure time. But did you know that you are exposed anytime you are outside including the time spent driving in your car?

It’s the times we don’t think about that are critical. We are so often inadvertently exposing our skin to the sun causing damage to our skin and accelerating the visible and non-visible signs of aging.

At The Piazza Center in Austin, TX, we recommend wearing a medical grade, physical blocking sunscreen every day with all of your activities.

Sun Damage and Skin

Sun exposure is the most common cause of skin damage and wrinkling. Exposure to UV rays in sunlight causes changes to the skin including:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Brown spots and pigmentation irregularities
  • Loss of collagen and elastin

The sun’s UV rays promote the formation of free radicals within the skin damaging our elastin and contributing to wrinkling, sun spots, moles, melasma and even skin cancer.

DIY Sun Protection

Thankfully, we have some proven DIY techniques to keep your skin protected, slow the signs of aging in your skin and in most cases even reverse some of the damage! While we can’t go back to our carefree youthful selves and start protection sooner, we can stop the damage that’s happening now.

Protected Sun Exposure

The Piazza Center Team recommends practicing “Protected Sun Exposure.” Elements of this include:
