Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, helps people from San Antonio, New Braunfels, and other Texas communities restore a youthful and attractive appearance to the brows and eyes by lifting saggy skin tissues along the brow and forehead that often comes with age. A droopy brow often gives off an impression of sadness, anger, and exhaustion. A brow lift in Austin, Texas, with board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Marcelo Antunes can be the ideal procedure to provide a long-lasting solution to a constantly tired or angry appearance. It can create a smoother, more alert, and youthful look by repositioning the brow and forehead.
Aging of the Brow Area
When considering a brow lift procedure, it is important to understand that as we age, our skin and ligaments lose elasticity, and gravity takes its toll causing the forehead to sag down over the eyes. Aging of the brow area often results in:
- Impaired peripheral vision
- Deep lines and creases
- A constantly tired and angry appearance
Can You Benefit from a Brow Lift?
While most patients consider brow lift surgery to enhance their appearance, the results often enhance interpersonal relationships–socially and at work–as well because patients may:
- Appear more approachable
- Experience a renewed sense of confidence
- Look more alert
A properly performed brow lift provides long-lasting, natural, and beautiful results. Dr. Antunes takes great pride in his brow lifts and consistently provides natural-looking, harmonious, and long-lasting results through minimally invasive techniques.
Depending on the patient’s desired outcome, their unique anatomy, and the extent of the corrections to be addressed, Dr. Antunes may perform the brow lift with the use of endoscopes through small incisions or use an open technique (hairline brow lift). He may recommend hairline lowering surgery instead of, or in addition to, a brow lift for patients bothered by a high or large forehead.
Meet Dr. Antunes
Board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Marcelo Antunes dedicates his practice exclusively to aesthetic procedures for the face. He can help you look your best and be confident in your appearance.About Dr. Antunes
Nonsurgical approaches to lifting the brow include the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic. This approach relaxes the forehead muscles to reduce the severity of frown lines and other deep wrinkles so that the muscles that pull up the brow can work unopposed. In other patients, injectable fillers can be applied to the brow area providing fullness that can create a rejuvenated appearance. These nonsurgical options are less expensive and less invasive, and although they are a great option for many people, it’s important to note that the results last months instead of years with a surgical brow lift.
Why Choose a Facial Plastic Surgery Specialist?
Preparing for brow lift surgery requires detailed planning and a clear discussion of desired outcomes and expectations. When considering a brow lift, a skilled and experienced surgeon, such as Dr. Antunes, will carefully examine your entire face to determine what adjustments will provide the most balanced and aesthetically appealing results. Ideal eyebrow aesthetics will always balance the brow and upper eyelid. Most patients benefit from upper eyelid surgery along with a brow lift. The positioning of the brows in relation to the eyes can drastically affect the overall appearance of the face. Aesthetically conscious surgeons, like Dr. Antunes, always perform brow lifts in ways that bring balance and harmony to one’s facial features and overall appearance.

Dr. Antunes performs brow lift surgery using general anesthesia or deep sedation with local anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. Dr. Antunes personalizes one of the following techniques to your unique needs and goals:
- Endoscopic brow lifts involve a few very short incisions hidden within the hairline. Dr. Antunes uses tiny, thin instruments and a camera to lift and reposition the forehead muscles and tissues.
- Hairline brow lifts (trichophytic brow lifts) involve one incision made within the hairline in order to lift the brow and forehead.
After surgery, your forehead may be taped or loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising.
Recovery After Brow Lift Surgery
Most patients go home the day of surgery under the care of an adult family member or friend. While patients typically do not experience significant pain after a brow lift, it’s common to have a feeling of tightness and an achy feeling in the temple region. You will be given specific instructions that include how to care for the surgical site to aid healing and specific conditions to look for at the surgical site or in your general health.
Recovery time varies between individuals but typically ranges from 1 to 2 weeks. For the first few weeks, it is normal to have some mild bruising, swelling, and tightness of the forehead and temples. It is important to keep your head elevated above your heart. Most patients experience headaches that last for 1 to 2 days.
Dr. Antunes will see you several times during the first 2 weeks after surgery, and you will have direct access to him at all times. Because many questions arise over this initial period, Dr. Antunes believes setting up a series of appointments in advance alleviates anxiety about the recovery process. His core objective is to provide a safe, comfortable surgical experience that produces your desired results.
