Have you heard of dermaplaning? It is a highly effective procedure at my plastic surgery practice in Austin for eliminating several different kinds of skin concerns and refreshing the face. Using a sterile surgical blade, we can gently exfoliate and eliminate surface layers of dead skin and unwanted “peach fuzz.” With each treatment, 2 to 3 weeks of dead skin cells are removed, revealing brighter and younger-looking skin. Dermaplaning is often used to enhance other topical treatments and, in particular, to help with the absorption of chemical peels and antioxidant skin treatments. In addition, the treatment removes environmental toxins, enhances the skin’s ability to absorb products, and softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Here are a few answers to our most frequently asked dermaplaning questions:

1Is dermaplaning painful?

No! Although we use a surgical blade, our highly skilled aesthetician removes unwanted skin cells meticulously. Our skin care clients love how that their peach fuzz is gone immediately, revealing more even and radiant skin.

2How do I get the most out of my dermaplaning treatment?

We recommend that you finish your treatment with a SkinMedica® Illuminize Peel to give you an exceptional glow! This is the best way to get you “red carpet ready” for any event or just a fun evening out.

3Is this a new treatment?

Although dermaplaning is a recent addition at The Piazza Center, this treatment has been around and performed safely for decades — even centuries, if you believe the legend that dermaplaning was the secret to Egyptian Queen Cleopatra’s enviable complexion. We’d like to think so!
