Nipple Surgery & Recovery

Do you think that nipples change with pregnancy and breast feeding? Absolutely.  Many women notice changes to this specialized part of the breast and, yet, no one really talks about restoring the nipple to a pre-pregnancy state.  Nipples can be reduced if they are elongated or enlarged.  If a nipple is inverted, the structures that tether the nipple inward can be released to give a more aesthetic appearance to the breast.

I love this procedure because the incisions are hidden at the base of nipple where it meets the areola to narrow the nipple, reduce the projection of the nipple or release the underlying tissue to prevent inversion. This procedure can be easily combined with breast augmentation, revision or lift procedures. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes and can be easily performed in the office. The small incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures and a small dressing is placed around the nipple as well as a nursing pad.  During the first few days after this procedure, the patient will experience some soreness at the nipple. Occasionally, the nipple sensitivity is heightened but usually resolved by 2 to 4 weeks following the procedure. You may shower 1 to 2 days following the procedure.  For my patients that have undergone this procedure, I’ve seen this be a major confidence builder.  Request a consultation today with our Patient Consultant to see if this procedure is right for you.
