An Interview with Alison Kothmann

Tell us about your background.

I grew up as a daughter of educators in a very democratic household. This established the foundation for my love of educating patients so they can make an informed decision about the treatments that are best for them. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and started college as a business major. I switched to nursing my sophomore year after an accident that changed my appearance. I completed a minor in business to support me in the future. My experience as a registered nurse includes pediatrics, psychiatry, and mother-baby. I was so excited when I learned that injecting and aesthetics was a door that was open to me. I dove right in over 9 years ago and never looked back.

What made you decide on nursing school?

I had always loved and excelled at science and loved helping people. I thought it was the best of both those worlds.

What made you decide to become an Advanced Aesthetic Nurse?

I love the mix of art and science that's an essential part of the profession. Aesthetics, technology, and what we know about human anatomy are constantly evolving. I am very goal-oriented, and seeing how I can help patients achieve their aesthetic dreams and become more confident is truly gratifying.

How did you choose Austin?

I have been visiting Austin since my college days. The music scene was the most appealing part back then. I fell in love with the Texas Hill Country soon after as I love being out on the water and there are so many beautiful places to explore here.

As I grow older, I feel Austin suits my endeavors to live a healthy, outdoorsy lifestyle while also enjoying city life.  Austin provides the best of both worlds for me. With the growth that Austin has experienced the last few years, the entrepreneur vibe is addicting!! There's no other place I would rather be.

How did you become an injection nurse?

Really simple: I love beauty, preventative aging treatments, and the idea of helping others live their best life. I was always told I had a gentle hand when I worked pediatrics. It’s definitely the blend of art and science in a needle

How did you come to know Dr. Piazza?

I knew I wanted to move to Austin, and through colleagues I heard that The Piazza Center was looking to add another injector to its amazing staff. I applied and met Dr. Piazza at my interview.

What are your favorite treatments for yourself at The Piazza Center?

I love BOTOX® for preventing wrinkles. I am amazed by the power of broadband light therapy to change the expression of the genetic code of our skin, and Sculptra® Aesthetic is absolutely my favorite treatment for total facial re-globalization.

You seem passionate about your work. Can you share some insights?

We all have things that stress us out or things about ourselves we would like to improve. Each day I go to work with the attitude that I can make someone else's life brighter and help them become more self-confident. It’s magical knowing I have the ability to help someone else with their goals.

What do you like to do when you're not working?

I like to hike the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail, explore vintage shops, and enjoy new dining experiences. I love spending time with my friends and family, along with making sure I am staying healthy and taking care of myself so I can best take care of others. I love yoga, NeuFit, and meditation time.

Tell us about your family.

I grew up in Ft. Worth. Most of my family calls the Fort Worth/Dallas area home. I love cheering on my kids and supporting their goals and dreams. I have 3 children, Jack, who is a senior in high school; Karoline, who is a sophomore; and Heidi, who is a 6th grader. Engaging and teaching my kids about volunteerism and helping others is near and dear to my heart.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to continue educating myself on the newest technology, techniques, and communication skills needed to bring my patients the best results. Personally, I am moving to the Westlake area of Austin next fall with my daughters when my son leaves for college. I am so excited to finally call Austin, TX, my home!
