Often, women with large, heavy breasts experience symptoms such as neck and back pain, difficulty exercising, painful bra strap marks, as well as difficulty finding clothing that fits properly. Fortunately, a breast reduction in Austin, TX, can help women alleviate these symptoms and achieve a breast size proportionate to the rest of the body. In addition to alleviating these common physical symptoms associated with having large breasts, a breast reduction can also have psychological benefits including improved confidence and decreased self-consciousness.

At The Piazza Center, we believe that beautiful surgical results are enhanced by leading a healthy lifestyle. Our aim is to help you achieve your cosmetic goals and desires. If you would like to find out more about breast reduction, you can request a consultation online, or call our office at (512) 551-1067.

Your Breast Reduction Procedure

During your personal consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rocco C. Piazza, he will discuss your surgical goals with you. After determining which treatment approach will help you achieve the results you desire, you will schedule your surgery. Also, at this time you may discuss with Dr. Piazza any questions or concerns you have regarding your breast reduction procedure.

Breast reduction surgery is performed in a fully accredited hospital surgery center near our practice, and is performed as an outpatient procedure. After studying and training under Dr. Dennis Hammond, Dr. Piazza has adopted the SPAIR breast reduction technique for his breast reduction patients. This innovative technique allows for a shorter scar than traditional breast reduction methods, and improves the overall breast appearance. To perform the SPAIR technique, tissue is removed from around the nipple and the areola in a semi-circular fashion, and the breast is reshaped in a manner which maintains the natural curves running from the outer portion of the breast over to the inner chest wall. Dr. Piazza has found that this method of breast reduction provides the most aesthetically pleasing shape as well as decreased scarring.

In general, Austin breast reduction patients can expect that the procedure will take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the amount of reduction necessary. After your breast reduction, you may experience swelling and soreness, but this will subside over the next few days to weeks.

Dr. Piazza Answers Common Questions

Will I be able to breast feed after a breast reduction?

Many of my breast reduction patients are concerned with breast feeding after their procedure. It is likely that you will be able to breast feed normally, as the nipple is not completely removed from the breast; therefore the nerves and ducts are kept intact. This can be discussed in more detail during your consultation.

Do you use liposuction to reduce the size of the breasts?

Not typically. While liposuction can be used to reduce the size of the breasts, I prefer to use the SPAIR technique, which allows me to reduce the breasts in a way that maintains the beautiful curves and shape of the breast. This technique also allows me to use smaller incisions than other breast reduction techniques. This, in turn, creates a more aesthetically pleasing breast appearance than other, more traditional breast reduction methods.

Your Breast Reduction Results

Following your breast reduction procedure, you will only wear a supportive bra to help maintain your new breast shape. In general, normal, everyday activities can be resumed about a week after the procedure, and most women return to work after 7 to 10 days. Carefully following postoperative instructions may help to reduce your recovery time.
