Frequently, patients come to see Dr. Piazza for revision of a previous breast augmentation. This 55-year-old female came to Dr. Piazza with concerns about the appearance of her breasts. She had a previous breast augmentation with saline implants by another surgeon 8 years prior. She was most unhappy with her breast asymmetry, large areolas, and a very firm left breast. She wanted to discuss revision breast augmentation surgery in Austin. She desired symmetric, soft breasts with smaller areolas. She scheduled a consultation and met with Dr. Piazza at his Austin plastic surgery office. Dr. Piazza and his nurse, Hayley, spent an hour with her during her appointment. Dr. Piazza explained the safety of silicone gel implants and recommended the use of her previous breast incision in her breast fold to perform a revision breast augmentation. He explained that the position of the implants needed to be changed to under the muscle. He also recommended that she change to silicone gel breast implants to give a more natural feel to the breasts. In order to reduce the size of the areola, he would perform a circumareolar breast lift, which would center the areola over the breast mound to give a more youthful appearance to the breasts. In surgery, Dr. Piazza removed the old saline implants, created a submuscular pocket and placed new silicone gel implants while performing a circumareolar (periareolar) breast lift. He also adjusted her breast folds to give her more symmetry. She tolerated the procedure very well and returned to normal activity by 2 weeks without pain, discomfort or limitations. She is very excited that she has good symmetry in shape and size. Her 6 weeks post-operative photos are shown above. Her incisions still remain pink as expected and will fade nicely over the next 12 months. Photos will be updated at her 3 month visit.
