A 36-year-old woman in Austin, Texas contacted Dr. Piazza because she wanted to transform the appearance of her abdomen. She had a very bad infection after a c-section 18 years ago which resulted in disfiguring scars of her abdomen. She would not wear a swimsuit and avoided wearing dresses or other clothes that would fit her well around her mid-section. She had become extremely self-conscious because of the appearance of her abdomen. She is like many women in Austin, Texas who desire to improve the appearance of their abdomen after pregnancy. During her consultation, Dr. Piazza explained that the best way to improve the appearance of her abdomen would be to perform an abdominoplasty procedure. Due to the multiple scars on her abdomen, including a midline scar, he explained that she would still have a midline scar after surgery but that this scar would be improved and would so would the quality of her abdominal skin. In surgery, Dr. Piazza repaired her abdominal muscle laxity bringing her abdomen back to its pre-pregnancy shape. Her incisions were placed low across her abdomen so that she could wear a low-cut bathing suit if she so chose. He removed as much excess skin as possible including the majority of her previous abdominal scars. After surgery, she recovered well and was back to performing normal daily activities at 2 weeks. She feels like she can finally wear clothes that fit around her waist and fits her tummy. After 18 years, she is most excited about finally wearing a bathing suit (even a bikini!).
