The Switch at a Glance
Patient: Anyone who has been using Plated INTENSE and wants to know what we moved to
Desired Goal: The same at-home exosome routine, with more exosome sources and a lower cost per mL
Product: INVO Rejuvenating Complex, 30 mL cosmetic serum
Size: 30 mL — twice the volume of the 15 mL Plated INTENSE bottle
Technique: Applied twice daily to clean skin, morning and night
Timeline: Give it about eight weeks before you judge it
Why This Matters: A 30 mL bottle used twice daily is a full course, not a trial size. Most of the disappointment people have with any serum comes from stopping at week three. The volume is the part of this switch that makes an eight-week course realistic instead of aspirational. Individual results vary.
For several years, Plated INTENSE was the exosome serum on our shelf at The Piazza Center. Patients liked it, it did what we told them it would do, and Plated served our patients well. We want to be clear about that up front, because what follows is a comparison, and comparisons have a way of turning into attacks.
This is not that. Plated is a good product.
But it is no longer what we stock, and patients who have been reordering it for years deserve a straight explanation of what replaced it and why. The exosome serum we carry now is INVO Rejuvenating Complex.
There are two reasons for the change, and we would rather give you both than only the tidy one. The first is the formulation, which we think is better suited to at-home use. The second is about what it means for a surgical practice to stock a product that is now available almost everywhere. Both are below, along with the one measure where Plated is the better product.
Plated INTENSE vs INVO: The Comparison, Including Where Plated Wins
Most product comparisons published by a practice that has just switched brands are advertisements wearing a table's clothing. The way to tell the difference is to look for a row where the old product comes out ahead. If there isn't one, you are reading marketing.
So here is that row first: Plated INTENSE is the denser formula. It concentrates roughly one trillion exosomes into 15 mL, about 67 billion per mL. INVO puts 1.2 trillion or more into 30 mL, about 40 billion per mL. Drop for drop, Plated carries more. That is a real advantage, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What INVO offers instead is more exosomes in total, from more sources, over twice as many days, at a little over half the cost per millilitre.
| Plated INTENSE | INVO Rejuvenating Complex | |
|---|---|---|
| Bottle size | 15 mL | 30 mL |
| Exosomes per mL | ~67 billion — the denser of the two | ~40 billion |
| Total exosomes per bottle | ~1 trillion | 1.2+ trillion |
| Exosome sources | 1 — platelet | 3 — fibroblast, umbilical cord, bone marrow |
| Also in the bottle | Growth factors, peptides and antioxidants listed on its label | Vitamin C, 1,200+ growth factors and peptides |
| Cost per mL | ~$17.20 (our last shelf price) | ~$9.50 |
| How it is used | Once daily | Twice daily |
| At The Piazza Center | Retired from our shelf | In stock — $285 online; patients can call for patient pricing |
Figures are per the manufacturers' own published product information. Individual results vary.
Three Exosome Sources Instead of One
This is the row that actually moved us, and it is worth explaining properly rather than leaving as a number in a table.
Exosomes are tiny vesicles that cells release, and what is inside them depends on the cell they came from. A platelet-derived exosome carries a platelet's cargo. A fibroblast-derived exosome carries a fibroblast's. They are not interchangeable ingredients with a single active in common — they are different payloads.
Plated INTENSE is a single-source product: platelet. It is a well-characterised source and there is nothing wrong with it. INVO draws from three — fibroblast, umbilical cord and bone marrow — which gives a cosmetic formula a broader mix of signalling material rather than a deeper pour of one kind.
Two of those three, umbilical cord and bone marrow, are mesenchymal sources, the more extensively studied side of regenerative science. That is part of why the three-source formulation interested us in the first place.
Whether a broader mix matters more than a denser single source is a judgement call rather than a settled question. Ours is that for a cosmetic serum used at home twice a day for two months, variety of signal plus a longer course beats concentration in a bottle half the size. A reasonable clinician could weigh it the other way.
Why Volume Changes the Maths
A 15 mL bottle does not last long, even at Plated INTENSE’s once-daily directions. That is the practical problem with the denser formula: you get a stronger dose for a shorter stretch, and skin responds less to intensity than to consistency.
At 30 mL, INVO covers roughly twice the course — about $9.50 per mL against about $17.20. Cost per millilitre is the number to watch if you are comparing the two on paper, because it is the only price figure that accounts for the bottles being different sizes.
And more total exosomes per bottle is simply more material, even though each millilitre carries fewer: about one trillion in the Plated bottle, 1.2 trillion or more in the INVO bottle.
The Other Reason: What a Practice Chooses to Carry
The formulation is half the answer. We would be giving you an incomplete one if we stopped there.
Plated is now widely available across medical spas and online retailers. That is a measure of the brand's success and it reflects well on them — but it changes the role the product plays in a practice like ours.
Part of what a surgical practice offers is a considered formulary: a deliberately small set of products, chosen against the procedures we actually perform. When something becomes available through every channel, our carrying it adds very little to that selection. So we reassess the shelf periodically and retire what no longer earns its place, and we would rather tell patients each time than quietly change the box.
None of that is a criticism of the product. It is a statement about what we think a physician-curated shelf is for.
"Plated served our patients well. But when I compared them side by side, INVO gave us three exosome sources instead of one, twice the serum, and vitamin C and peptides built in. When something better comes along, I owe it to my patients to make the switch." — Dr. Rocco Piazza, MD, FACS
What to Expect, and What Not To
Here is what we tell every patient who asks about any serum, and it has not changed with the brand on the box.
Use it twice daily. Give it about eight weeks before you form an opinion. Skin turns over on its own schedule and no topical product shortcuts it, so judging a serum at two weeks tells you about its texture and nothing about what it does.
And set the ceiling honestly: a serum isn't a facelift. A cosmetic serum works on the look and feel of the skin surface — smoothness, tone, the appearance of fine lines. It does not reposition tissue. If what bothers you is laxity or volume loss, the conversation to have is a consultation, not a purchase. Individual results vary.
If You Have Been Buying Plated INTENSE
Finish the bottle you have. There is no reason to throw out product you paid for, and nothing about switching requires a washout period between them.
When you are ready to reorder, INVO Rejuvenating Complex is in stock on our shop at $285 for 30 mL. Patients of the practice can call the clinic for patient pricing.
For the background on what exosomes are and why consistency matters more than any single number on a box, our earlier piece on Plated INTENSE still holds up on the fundamentals.

Plated INTENSE Alternatives: Common Questions
What is the best alternative to Plated INTENSE?
For our patients, it is INVO Rejuvenating Complex, the exosome serum we now stock in Plated's place. It is the same category of product, applied to clean skin before the rest of your routine, so a patient coming off Plated can move across without changing anything else in a routine.
Is INVO stronger or more concentrated than Plated INTENSE?
No. Plated INTENSE is the more concentrated serum per millilitre, at roughly 67 billion exosomes per mL against INVO's roughly 40 billion. INVO's advantages are different: three exosome sources rather than one, more exosomes in the bottle overall, twice the volume, and a lower cost per millilitre.
Why did The Piazza Center stop carrying Plated?
Two reasons. We think INVO Rejuvenating Complex is better suited to at-home use — three exosome sources, twice the volume and a lower cost per millilitre. And Plated is now widely available, while a surgical practice's shelf is meant to be a short, considered list. Neither reason is a criticism of Plated, which served our patients well.
Has Plated INTENSE been discontinued?
No. Plated is still in production and still widely available — this was our decision about what to stock, not a change by the manufacturer.
How long before I can tell whether INVO is working?
Give it about eight weeks of twice-daily use. That is roughly how long consistent topical use takes to show up in the look of the skin surface. A serum isn't a facelift, and individual results vary.
What does INVO Rejuvenating Complex cost?
$285 for a 30 mL bottle on our online shop, about $9.50 per millilitre. Patients of the practice can call the clinic for patient pricing.
Can I finish my Plated bottle first?
Yes. Use what you have, then switch. There is no washout period between the two and no benefit to discarding product you already own.
Individual results vary. INVO Rejuvenating Complex and Plated INTENSE are cosmetic products and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
