Breast Augmentation

For most women, the breasts are an important aspect of femininity. Breast size and symmetry can vary significantly among women and can change with weight loss and pregnancy, which can reduce the size and change the shape of your breasts. However, with a breast augmentation from Austin, TX plastic surgeon Dr. Rocco C. Piazza, women can achieve enhanced breast volume and symmetry. Breast implants can increase the breast size to a more proportionate and balanced size, thereby improving the body's overall shape.

At The Piazza Center, we believe that beautiful surgical results are enhanced by leading a healthy lifestyle. Our aim is to help you achieve your cosmetic goals and desires. If you would like to find out more information regarding breast augmentation, you can request a consultation online, or call our office at 512.288.8200.

Your Breast Augmentation Procedure

Before your breast augmentation procedure, you will meet with Dr. Piazza for a personal consultation to discuss your surgical goals. Dr. Piazza will give you his undivided attention and answer all of your questions. You will have the opportunity to wear breast implant sizers and a comfortable bra to get a better idea of your desired look. On the day of your procedure, your breast augmentation will be performed as an outpatient procedure in a fully-accredited ambulatory surgery center near our practice.

In general, the procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours, and is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Depending on the shape of your natural breasts, the amount of breast tissue you have, your overall body size, as well as your level of fitness and lifestyle choices, your implant choice and incision location will vary. Dr. Piazza will either perform a periareolar or inframammary fold incision, and he will use techniques to create a short scar, which is less conspicuous once healed.

After the procedure, you may experience some soreness, which will subside over the next few days to a week. Most women can return to non-strenuous, everyday activities within a few days of their breast augmentation.

Dr. Piazza Answers Common Questions

What types of incisions do you perform?

At my practice in Austin, breast augmentation incision options include the periareolar (along the lower border of the areola) and the inframammary fold (underneath the breast) placement. The incision you choose will be determined by your personal preference, natural breast size and shape, as well as your overall body frame. While there are other incision methods that may be available, I have found that these provide the best access to the breast, which allows for more precise implant placement, and therefore, a better, more natural result.

What types of implants do you offer?

I offer both saline and silicone breast implants at my Austin practice. No matter which type of implant is chosen, my breast augmentation patients are concerned with having a natural look and feel to their breasts. There are many advantages to using either types of implant, and deciding between the two will largely depend on a number of factors including your natural breast shape, incision placement, and/or budget, as saline implants are generally less expensive than silicone.

Will a breast augmentation affect my fitness routine?

After your surgery, you will be able to resume non-strenuous activities within the next couple of days. For the next few weeks as you continue to heal, you will be able to participate in more strenuous activities. Once you are fully healed – typically 4-6 weeks – you can exercise and return to your normal fitness routine.

Your Breast Augmentation Results

It is common for breast augmentation patients to be able to return to work within a few days following their surgery. At first, your breasts may be somewhat sore and swollen, and they will appear high until they "settle." Over the next few weeks and months, you will find that this will subside and a more natural look will emerge. After a few weeks of healing, you can resume your typical exercise regimen and further improve your surgical results.
