Treatments with injectable fillers like JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus, Voluma, Vollure, Volux, Restylane®, Restylane® Lyft, Defyne, and Refyne at our Austin practice can help improve your appearance by strategically adding volume to certain areas of the face, as well as filling in lines and wrinkles creating a more youthful appearance. For younger patients who are not yet showing signs of sagging and volume loss, dermal fillers can be injected as maintenance or for augmentation.

Injectable fillers can be used to lift and emphasize the appearance of cheekbones, enhance the appearance of the chin and jawline, and create fuller, plumper lips. Fillers can also be used to refine the shape of the nose, a procedure called liquid rhinoplasty, for patients of all ages. Fillers like Restylane® can be used to fill in lines around the lips and mouth, while maintaining natural movement to allow you to avoid looking stiff or artificial while improving your appearance.

Your Injectable Filler Procedure

Before your injectable filler treatment, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Rocco Piazza, or our advanced nurse injectors Hayley Peña, RN, April Daniel, FNP-C, or Alison Kothmann, RN, BSN, will consult with you to determine your cosmetic goals and desires. Once a treatment plan has been set in place, they will begin your injectable procedure.

Before your treatment, you will have the option of having a topical anesthetic or Pro-Nox treatment (laughing gas) to help control any discomfort you may experience. Additionally, the fillers themselves come pre-mixed with anesthetic, so discomfort is minimized. The dermal filler will be injected carefully into the targeted areas to add volume and smooth lines and wrinkles, provide support, add natural volume, or naturally enhance your desired areas. After your treatment is complete, you will be able to return to your everyday activities immediately.

What Is the Best Lip Filler?

Typically, the best fillers for lip injections are formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA), a water-attracting substance found naturally in the body. Our experienced, credentialed providers will assess your face and lips and understand your aesthetic goals. From there, they will choose the best lip filler for your needs, whether JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus, Volbella, Restylane, or another option or combination of options to achieve a natural yet supple pout.

For lip fillers, Austin patients choose our skilled nurse injectors for their expertise, custom injectable treatments, and excellent results.

Fillers: More Than Lip Plumping

Beyond increasing the size or fullness of your lips, lip fillers also rejuvenate the lips and areas around the mouth and jawline. This includes:

  • Removing lip lines: Fillers smooth away vertical lines on and around the lips.
  • Reducing nasolabial folds: Fillers minimize these deep lines that run from the sides of the nose down to the outer corners of the mouth.
  • Softening and filling lipstick lines: Fillers smooth smile lines and plump the lips.
  • Define the jawline: Volux is designed to lift, chisel, and define the jawline and smooth the jowl area.

Are Filler Injections Uncomfortable?

Dermal filler injections are well tolerated by the majority of patients, who only usually feel a pinch when the tiny needle enters the skin. We are happy to offer numbing agents upon request to further ensure comfort.

Filler treatments may cause slight redness, swelling, and bruising around the injection area, but this should dissipate in a day or two for most. Often, patients go right back to work or the normally scheduled activities following their session.

Suggested Aftercare For Fillers

Dermal fillers do not require you to take any time off at all. Our helpful nonsurgical team advises patients to avoid exercise or strenuous activity for at least 24 hours. Saunas, hot baths, tanning beds, and jacuzzis should be avoided for a day or two, because environments with excessive heat can interfere with the results of the product. Patients should not expose their faces to direct sun, and if venturing outside, are encouraged to wear medical-grade sunscreen and a hat with full coverage for protection.

Injectable Fillers FAQ

How long will my injectable filler treatment last?

What is the difference between injectable fillers and BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, and XEOMIN?

What are the alternatives to using injectable fillers to fill in wrinkles?

Can I combine an injectable filler treatment with other treatments?

How long will my injectable filler treatment last?

Depending on which injectable filler is used, the results can last anywhere from 6 months to more than 1 to 2 years. Volux for the jawline is the longest lasting filler on the market with a staying power of 18 – 24 months! It is the perfect filler to pair with collagen stimulators like Radiesse for the neck and chest. Dermal fillers administered by an experienced injector provide lasting results that appear very natural. While injectable fillers are a temporary solution for an aging face, they generally last slightly longer than BOTOX® Cosmetic.

What is the difference between injectable fillers and BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, and XEOMIN?

Injectable fillers are used to add volume back to the face where volume has decreased, provide support, correct under-eye hollowing, minimize fine lines, or enhance the appearance of the lips, cheeks, chin and jawline. BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, and XEOMIN are botulinum toxins that work by relaxing the muscles that contribute to dynamic wrinkles like frown lines, horizontal lines in the forehead, and crow’s feet. Injectable fillers work to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, as well as areas of the face that have lost volume, lost support, or desire enhancement.

What are the alternatives to using injectable fillers to fill in wrinkles?

Collagen stimulators like Sculptra® Aesthetic can naturally soften the appearance of wrinkles and restore volume to the cheeks and other areas of the face. After a series of treatments, results develop gradually over the following 3 months.

The body’s own fat can be used instead of a synthetic filler. In fat transfer or fat grafting, liposuction is used to harvest fat from a specific area of the body for use in the face. This method of facial correction differs from injectable fillers because it uses cells from your own body, and may provide longer-lasting results.

Can I combine an injectable filler treatment with other treatments?

Injectable fillers can absolutely be (and often are) combined with other surgical and non-surgical procedures to help produce a more comprehensive rejuvenation. Typically, injectable fillers are combined with BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, or XEOMIN to help improve the overall facial appearance. This is one of the best ways to protect, preserve, and correct signs of facial aging with minimal downtime. Also, fillers can be combined with surgical procedures including a facelift, neck lift, neck liposuction, eyelid surgery or brow lift.

Your Injectable Filler Results

Once your injectable treatment has been performed, you will be given post-injection care instructions, but generally you will be free to resume your normal activities. After the treatment, you may experience some slight redness, swelling, or bruising but this will subside within a day or two. In general, our injectable filler patients notice improvements of the face immediately after their treatment, and are able to enjoy their new, natural look right away. On average, results will last anywhere from 6 months to a year or more depending on which treatment you choose.

Hayley, Alison, April and Dr. Piazza are happy to address any questions you may have about your injectable filler procedure at The Piazza Center.
