I think that one of the most important areas to address when performing a tummy tuck here in Austin—is the belly button.  Oftentimes, pregnancy and/or weight gain with subsequent loss can distort the belly button giving it a transverse, puckered appearance.   In consultation, I find that patients really don’t pay much attention to the shape of the belly button when I show them before and after photos of other patients.  In my opinion, when seeking a plastic surgeon, it is important that patients look at the belly button—look at the shape, the location of the scar, how well the scar healed.  If not done correctly, this can be a tell-tale sign of a poor tummy tuck.  The picture in this blog represents three unique patients with 3 very different belly buttons—I typically turn the belly button into an oval shape elongated vertically.  I feel this gives the patient a slimming result—as you can imagine the two 6-pack muscles on either side.  More photos of this procedure can be found in my Austin tummy tuck before & after photo gallery.
